7 Days Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro Climbing in February Itinerary

Arrival Day: Kilimanjaro Airport to Moshi

Meet your transfer team at Kilimanjaro Airport and travel to your booked hotel in Moshi. Take this opportunity to rest, organize your luggage and meet your mountain team if scheduled. Your guide can review the trek, equipment and important preparations before the climb begins. Ask questions, check your gear and enjoy a relaxed evening before your Kilimanjaro adventure starts.

Day 1: Moshi to Lemosho/Lendorosi Gate to Big Tree Camp

Day 1: Moshi Town to Lemosho/Lendorosi Gate to Big Tree Camp – Stretch: 6 km | Hiking time: 3–4 hours | Climatic habitat: Rain Forest. After breakfast, drive toward the Lemosho/Lendorosi Gate for registration and trail preparations. Begin walking through lush rainforest, where tall trees, fresh air and forest sounds create a beautiful introduction to the mountain. The trail is usually gentle at first, allowing you to settle into a comfortable rhythm. Follow your guide, walk slowly and drink water regularly. Reach Big Tree Camp, relax and enjoy your first mountain evening.

Meal plan: Breakfast and Lunch.

Day 2: Big Tree Camp to Shira 2 Camp

Day 2: Big Tree Camp to Shira 2 Camp – Stretch: 18 km | Hiking time: 8–10 hours | Climatic habitat: Moorland. Today brings a longer and more demanding hike as the landscape changes from forest toward open moorland. You gain significant elevation while moving toward the Shira Plateau, so maintaining a slow, steady pace is essential. Enjoy broad views as vegetation becomes shorter and the mountain environment opens around you. Your guide will help control the pace and encourage regular hydration and rest. Arrive at Shira 2 Camp, settle in and prepare for another high-altitude day.

Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 3: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp

Day 3: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp – Stretch: 10 km | Hiking time: 6–8 hours | Climatic habitat: Semi Desert. Walk across the striking high-altitude landscape toward Barranco Camp. The scenery becomes increasingly rugged, with volcanic formations and wide mountain views. Take your time, maintain your pace and allow your body to adjust as the route gains and loses elevation.

Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp – Stretch: 5.2 km | Elevation: 3,986 m / 13,077 ft to 4,034 m / 13,253 ft | Hiking time: 4–5 hours | Climatic habitat: Alpine Desert. Tackle the famous Barranco Wall with careful guidance before continuing toward Karanga Camp. This is a shorter hiking day, giving you useful time to recover and prepare for the next high-altitude stage.

Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp – Elevation: 4,034 m / 13,253 ft to 4,662 m / 15,295 ft | Stretch: 3.3 km | Hiking time: 4–5 hours | Climatic habitat: Alpine Desert. Continue toward Barafu Camp through the stark alpine desert. The route is relatively short but the altitude makes every step important. Reach Barafu, have your meal, rest and prepare your summit clothing and equipment. Sleep early because the summit attempt begins during the night.

Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp – Stretch: 5 km ascent / 12 km descent | Hiking time: 7–8 hours ascent / 4–6 hours descent | Climatic habitat: Arctic. Begin the summit attempt before dawn and climb slowly toward Uhuru Peak. The cold, darkness and altitude make this the hardest stage, but steady pacing and determination can carry you forward. Reach Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters, celebrate your achievement and take photographs before descending toward Mweka Camp.

Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi Town

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi Town – Stretch: 10 km | Hiking time: 3–4 hours | Climatic habitat: Rain Forest. Descend through the rainforest toward Mweka Gate, where your trek officially ends. Complete the exit procedures, meet your transfer and return to Moshi for a well-earned rest. Celebrate your Kilimanjaro achievement and enjoy time to recover after the climb.

Departure Day: Moshi to Kilimanjaro Airport

Transfer from Moshi to Kilimanjaro Airport for your onward flight. The airport transfer fee is not included in the climbing price above but can be arranged for you. 7 Days Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro Climbing in February Trust and Safety

Safety comes first throughout the climb. Our mountain team uses trained and certified guides, while daily health checks help monitor how hikers are responding to altitude. Emergency oxygen is carried for appropriate emergency use. The itinerary also supports acclimatization through gradual altitude gain, controlled pacing and the principle of climbing high while sleeping lower where the route allows. Listen to your guide, report symptoms early and never rush the mountain.

Training for 7 Days Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro Climbing in February

Good preparation can make your seven-day climb more enjoyable and manageable. Begin training several weeks or months before arrival with regular walking, hiking, stair climbing and cardiovascular exercise. Add longer weekend hikes to build endurance and practice carrying a day pack. Strengthen your legs and core, but do not focus only on speed. Kilimanjaro rewards consistency, patience and controlled effort. Start preparing early, test your boots and practice using your trekking poles before departure.

Why Choose Lemosho Route in February?

February can be a sweet spot for the Lemosho Route, offering generally favorable dry conditions, mild temperatures on lower slopes and potentially excellent visibility. Compared with busier periods, some travelers may appreciate a quieter atmosphere on parts of the route. The combination of dramatic scenery, gradual progression and a seven-day schedule makes Lemosho an attractive choice for hikers seeking both challenge and mountain beauty. Check the weather forecast before departure and remain prepared for rapid changes at altitude.

6 Days vs 7 Days vs 8 Days Lemosho Route in February

A six-day Lemosho itinerary can suit experienced hikers who want a shorter schedule, but it allows less time for acclimatization. The seven-day route offers a useful balance between duration, pacing, scenery and altitude adjustment, making it a popular option for many trekkers. An eight-day itinerary adds another day for acclimatization and a more relaxed progression, but it also requires additional time and budget. Choose the schedule that matches your fitness, experience, travel time and summit goals.

What to Do Before or After Your Kilimanjaro Climb

Make your Tanzania trip even richer by adding a wildlife safari or beach holiday before or after your mountain adventure. Consider a Tarangire Safari for elephant-rich landscapes, a Ngorongoro Safari for spectacular crater scenery, a Serengeti Safari for vast wildlife plains, or a Lake Manyara Safari for a shorter northern circuit experience. You can also fly to Zanzibar for beaches, warm waters and a relaxing post-climb break. Contact us now to combine your Kilimanjaro climb with the activities you prefer.
