Arrival Day: Kilimanjaro Airport to Moshi
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your booked hotel in Moshi. This arrival transfer provides time to settle in and prepare for the mountain trek. Any accommodation arranged before the hike can be used before the Marangu Route begins.
Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
Rising: 5,500 ft / 1,700 m to 9,000 ft / 2,740 m | Stretch: 7 km | Hike time: 4–5 hours | Climatic habitat: Montane Forest. Begin from Moshi Town and continue to Marangu Gate before hiking through forest toward Mandara Hut. The route introduces the mountain environment gradually. Meal plan: Lunch and Dinner.
Day 2: Mandara to Horombo
Rising: 9,000 ft / 2,700 m to 12,100 ft / 3,700 m | Stretch: 11 km | Hike time: 6–8 hours | Climatic habitat: Heathland/Moorland. Leave Mandara Hut and continue toward Horombo through changing vegetation and open mountain scenery. The longer hiking distance provides an important stage of the Marangu Route while gaining additional elevation. Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Day 3: Acclimatization
Rising: 12,100 ft to 14,160 ft to 12,100 ft | Stretch: 10 km | Hiking time: 3–5 hours. This acclimatization day allows the body additional time to adjust to altitude. Hiking higher before returning to Horombo provides useful elevation exposure without moving the overnight accommodation higher. Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Day 4: Horombo to Kibo
Rising: 12,100 ft / 3,700 m to 15,400 ft / 4,700 m | Stretch: 10 km | Hike time: 6–8 hours | Climatic habitat: Alpine Desert. Continue from Horombo toward Kibo Hut across increasingly high and dry terrain. The route prepares you for the summit stage while reaching the designated overnight elevation. Day 5: Kibo to Uhuru Peak
Rising: 15,400 ft / 4,700 m to 19,300 ft / 5,895 m; 19,300 ft / 5,895 m to 12,100 ft / 3,700 m | Stretch: 4 km up / 14 km down | Hike time: 10–15 hours | Climatic habitat: Alpine Desert. The summit day takes you toward Uhuru Peak before descending to Horombo Hut. Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Day 6: Horombo to Moshi
Rising: 12,100 ft / 3,700 m to 5,500 ft / 1,700 m | Hike time: 5–7 hours | Stretch: 18 km. Descend from Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate and continue to Moshi Town. After arrival in Moshi, you will be transferred to Arusha for the night stay before the safari portion. Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Day 7: Tarangire
Arusha to Tarangire National Park: Pickup is around 7:00–8:00 am, with the exact time confirmed beforehand. The journey takes approximately 2 hours (109 km). Enjoy a game drive with opportunities to see wildlife, then drive in the late afternoon toward Mto wa Mbu or Karatu for dinner and overnight stay. Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Day 8: Serengeti
Mto wa Mbu/Karatu to Serengeti National Park: The supplied plan states pickup from Arusha around 9:00–9:30 am, with the exact time updated beforehand. A game drive follows in Serengeti, with overnight stay in Central Serengeti. Please note that check-in time can determine the next day’s park checkout time under park regulations. Day 9: Serengeti to Ngorongoro
Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Rim: Enjoy a Serengeti game drive before driving toward the Serengeti Gate to check out. Checkout time depends on the check-in arrangement. Day 10: Ngorongoro Crater
